Injection mold design:
DFM analysis and Moldflow simulation.
We analyze every product for moldability and mold construction, select the suppliers best suited to the project and support the customer all the way to part approval.

Uniform has been designing injection molds for plastics since 1975. A team of 6 designers, working two shifts, uses Siemens NX for CAD modeling and Moldex3D for injection molding simulation. Every project has its own story: our approach starts by listening to the customer specific requirements and gathering a complete set of technical details, including polymer and shrinkage value, geometric tolerances, steel grade and mold base specifications. For the most complex projects we provide feasibility studies backed by injection molding simulation. A single project manager follows the project from analysis through to part approval, ensuring a constant point of reference between the customer and Uniform.

Simulation before construction: critical issues anticipated, predictable results
How we work
-
01
Technical review and DFM analysis
We gather all the customer specifications, carry out the internal technical review and verify the moldability of the CAD before starting the design.
-
02
Mold design with 3D CAD
The engineering department develops the mold layout in Siemens NX: cavities, ejectors, cooling channels, injection system and parting plane.
-
03
Moldflow / Moldex3D simulation
We run the filling, cooling and packing simulation to validate the design and optimize the parameters before construction.
-
04
Internal design review
Before delivery, the design is reviewed internally with engineering, production and sales: comparison with the initial review and formal approval.
-
05
Customer approval
The 3D design is sent to the customer for approval. Any changes are incorporated before proceeding with construction.
-
06
Delivery of technical documentation
We deliver the complete construction design with Moldflow report, bill of materials and dimensional specifications.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
-
Which CAD formats do you accept for mold design?
We work in Siemens NX (native .prt format) and import the neutral formats STEP (.stp), IGES (.igs) and Parasolid (.x_t). If a different format is provided, we agree with the customer on a preliminary conversion before starting the DFM analysis. -
How long does the mold design phase typically take?
Timing varies with part complexity and the number of cavities. For a medium-complexity single-cavity mold we estimate 2 to 3 weeks from receipt of the final CAD to design approval. Multi-cavity molds or complex geometries require 4 to 6 weeks. Moldflow simulation is included in the stated timing. -
Is Moldflow simulation mandatory for every project?
No, but we recommend it whenever the part has tight dimensional tolerances (±0.05 mm or below), thin walls, filling asymmetries or engineering materials (PA GF, POM, PBT). For simple molds with symmetrical geometries and standard materials, we assess case by case whether simulation adds value compared with the extra cost. -
Do you also work with engineering plastics such as PA66-GF30 or POM?
Yes, we have consolidated experience with PA6, PA66-GF30, POM, PBT-GF, PC, ABS, PEEK and bioplastics such as Mater-Bi. Moldflow simulation is especially useful for reinforced materials, where anisotropic shrinkage can cause warpage that is hard to predict without numerical analysis. -
Do you offer reverse engineering services for existing molds without drawings?
Yes. For molds without technical documentation or acquired from third parties, we carry out the geometric survey of the components and produce the construction drawings. The service is available on request and agreed case by case.
